    I
You Monaghan sportsmen, I pray you draw near
And a few simple verses you quickly will hear,
The deeds of a hero that lives near Ballybay
They call him Hugh Jackson I hear people say,
His mills, Kilns and barns display a great show
    And his cloth from The North to the City does go;
For bleaching and lapping he exceeds them all
And he ranks as the first in the Linen Hall.
    II
Some more of his praises I'm going to explain
And ye muses assist me to sing abut Jane.
You might search Ireland over from Cork to Kildare
And not find an equal for this famous Grey mare.
He went into the stable and these words did say:
"The hour is approaching when you must away -
A cup near Cootehill you have twice won with fame
This day I am challenged: You must run again."
    III
She turned in her stable and said "Don't you know
That the cup is my own and I won't let it go
For twice I have won it, I mean to do still
And I'll bring it with splendour from the plains of Cootehill"
The Jockeys were dressed in white, scarlet & red,
Said Corry to Adams "This Jane she is blood."
Then some splendid mounts were all in one row
The flag it was dropped & away they did go.
