- Long ago rush candles were used but now we have tallow candles which are better and last longer. Everyone made their own candles at that time.
First the people got large rushes and let then dry for some time, then the green skin was taken off and the white substance inside was left in melted resin or grease for some time. Then all is rolled up in a long round shape like the candles of to-day.
