- Mr Bernard Malone, Killarue, Cootehill, Co. Cavan, who was killed by a horse last year, was one of the best swimmers in this locality.
One day when he was working in a field near a river he saw two girls crossing the sticks at the bottom of the field. Soon he heard a shout and looking back saw that on of the girls had fallen in. He jumped in and got her out safely. He got a certificate for life-saving.
