- There was a hedge school at Enagh cross long ago. A man by the name of Mr. Carbury conducted and ran this school.
It was at night the school was held. Young and old came to the school. The school was held in an old house. The man also lived in the same house. He could speak Irish and English and he taught both. He had some books for himself but the pupils had no books. They wrote on slates with brown stones.His payment was :- every one brought something for the house. Some brought tea some brought sugar others brought turf while others brought cakes. After school there used be a dance.
