    Long ago people never bought anything they could possibly make themselves.

    to hold the turf. All those baskets were long and upright, but they used make flat round basket which they called "shgiaths". They used those kind for pototoes when they were washing them thy would fill a basket of potatoes and then stick it into a tub of water and the potatoes got clean, they lifted them out again and all the water ran out. The "sgiath" had two handles in it one at each side.
