  1. My native town is Ballina. It is situated on the banks of the river Shannon at the southern entrance to Lough Derg. The population is about sixteen hundred. It is divided into townlands each seperated from the other by a stream. Three of these are "Inchamore" or the big island, so called because it is seperated from the others by a stream - one at each side, so it represents an island. "Inchabeg" or the little island also surrounded by four streams, and which also represents an island but
