  1. Hedge schools never existed in this part of the country. The teacher taught in his own rooms. Years ago a man named Ward taught the children in his own house. They used to come to the house in they evenings but they did not sleep there. Strange teachers used to come to this place also and settle down here. In the schools the writing was done with a pencil on a slate. They also had a blackboard. The teachers were mostly local. When a teacher
