name was LANHEADY.She was great grand aunt of the present Martin Mulcahy ("League") and lived near where the present John Mooney (colonial )lives.
Formerly there were plenty of spruce trees in the place but but they all have been cut down.
This townland overlooks the Shannon directly opposite the Holy Island .There is one large field called the lower field where patterns were kept till between 1820-30.
There was then a large population in this place and patterns were great events.Many crossed from Galway .There were races dances and so forth there .
At the last pattern an old man named Vaughan great- grandfather of the present Vaughans the carpenters -bag-piper-called a piper in contempt complained to the managing steward who always rode a fine horse as the crowd was great that he lost his purse.The stewards name was Sexton -some what of a Poet .He told Vaughan to mount behind him on the horse and began announcing thus .
"Vaughan the piper lost his purse.
And his money -that is much worse.
He that got it let him keep it
