    Griddles and bastibles were used for baking .Griddles varied in size ;and most people had at least two.
    For special occasions a "sweet cake" was made e.g when the priest was coming for the "Stations" in the house, or for Christmas. For this cake, plenty of eggs were use, plenty of butter, currants and raisins and brown sugar which was bought very cheaply ,and white flour. Even the very poor made a sweet-cake at Christmas.
