- The fox is a very clever animal. Once upon a time he played a very clever trick on a farmer. He went in through the window of a fowl-house one day, and he ate so much fowl that he could not get through the window again. So he laid down and pretended to be dead. When the farmer went in to the fowl-house in the evening, he was shocked to see his fowl gone and the fox dead as he thought. He went for a fork to throw him out but when he came back the fox was gone.
