  1. At the time that Cromwell's Soldiers were in Kerry, they were passing Lishaughtin Abbey Ballylongford and the monks rang the bell to call the other monks to prayers. When the soldiers heard the tone they turned back and put the monks to the sword and destroyed the Abbey by fire. It is expected that these monks were martyry martyrs at that time. The names of these monks are Scanlon, Sullivan and Hanrahan.
