In the time of the Famine - Cotter was there at that time - the rich people used to give some meal to the poor. The day came and all the people were coming to get it and Cotter had the rats in that district and he had to carry the rats away because they would eat all the meal. Cotter went off and when he was hungry and he went into a farmer's house. He said that he wanted a feed for his house and himself.
