    was often baked in front of the fire. The people used to clean the ashes and put the cake standing against the support this support was called either a brand iron or a grid iron and it was made from iron.
    It was all griddle bread that was used. There was a special kind of bread made at Christmas currants and raisins mixed together and also potato cake.
