  1. Long ago when people had no lamps They used lights called Fáideógs and rush candles. A fáideóg was made by pulling strands off a log of bog deal and twisting them together. Rush candles were made by pulling four rushes and twisting them, and dipping them in melted butter or fat and then leaving them to dry.
