a quenched coal under the churn. This is done to prevent bad people from stealing the butter. Churning is made about twice a week. The mother of the family always makes the churning. When the churning is going on other members of the family help her. In churning the dash is moved upwards and downwards. In winter hot water is put in the churning to make it easy. Cold water is put in it in summer to prevent the butter from getting burned. When little bits of butter appear on the dash the churning is then made. Then the butter is taken out of the churn and put into a dish. Next it is washed with cold water. Then the salt is mixed with the butter and made into a roll which is called a miasgán. If anyone comes in during the progress of the churning is going on. They should always say God bless the work and put a hand on the churn.
