- The houses long ago were roofed with scraws thatch, heather, and timber. The people got the straw after they threshed the oats outof it. There was a bed in the kitchen long ago. The bed that was in the old houses was called a hag. The man of the houseth slept in the hag. The fireplace was at the gable.
There was a chimney in the old houses. The materials that were used for building houses long ago were, stone, mortar, scraws, and timber. Some of the people long ago used to have the fireplace in the middle of the floor and there used to be a hole in the roof to let the smoke out. There were two doors in the old houses. There was one of the doors at the front and the other at th back. The door the old people had were made of rods and there was a straw mat fastened on the rods. There were two windows in the old houses. It was glass the people had always in the windows. The material the people had for making floors were lime and sand. There was a half door in the old houses.
