Kelly was not long there when a big wild cat sprang out from underneath him. The cat was as large as a dog, with claws as long as the prongs of a hay-fork. Its tail was as long as a dog's with a very hard end, as hard as iron.
The cat attacked Kelly as a lion might have done, but owing to the boy's strength and braveness, even though he was only fifteen years old, he would have killed him. The cat clawed Kelly very badly and beat him with the end of his tail in the face.
Kelly shouted for help. His comrades soon heard him shout and returned to his aid. They killed the cat with sticks and stones and kicks. They then put him into a large hole in a fence and put a large(continues on next page)- Collector
