- Steeple-village in the parish of Meelick is called after Saint Meelick.
The village was at one time a town.
There is a Tower in the village which was built in the year 1214 near which there was a monastery.
One time a bishop lived in this village and the field round the Monastery is still called "Páirc an Easbhuig".
It contains the ancient ruins of a church and outside it are the remains of a "Cranóg". Mr. Bolingbroke an English gentleman who was a cousin to the late King George 11 is buried there.
Near "Cranóg" is "Althoren" where Mass was said in penal times.
In this village there is also a well where a hunted priest took a drink and he prayed it would never dry, and so the water flows freshly ever since.
Many battles were fought in Meelick; the East side of the Tower bears the marks of a battle fought under Cromwell, but he failed to dislodge even one stone.- Bailitheoir
