- This is how Kiltane got its name. It is supposed that there was a Cill there long ago and its ruins are still to be seen.It is said to have been built in one night. There were nuns living in it and one of them was called Tane and since then it is called Kiltane. The nuns had bags of Oat-meal stored up and one night while they were asleep the soldiers came and asked them what was in the bags and they said it was flax seed and one of the soldiers stuck his sword in the bag and the flax seed came out.The nuns were afraid and they left soon after that and they went to London.
