- Animals of the Farm
We have three cows at home. There are no names on them. There is no name on the cow house. Straw and rushes are used as bedding for cows. Cows and calves are tied with rope or chain. The rope or chain is tied to the manger and then brought around the animals neck and fastened. If the cow or calf has horns it is usually tied by the horns. The tying of a cow or calf around the neck with a rope or chain is called a "spanshal".
A horse shoe is sometimes hung in the cow's stable to bring luck
If a man wants cows to go ahead he says "Hy" and if he wants them to stop he says "Dursh".
Horses are tied with a rope fastened to the manger or wall with a horse shoe and then brought round(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
