- Almost all the graveyards nowadays are square. There are three graveyards in the parish of Ballycastle. Two of them are fairly old, and one in which nobody is buried yet. It was consecrated last July by Most Rev. Doctor Naughton Bishop of Killala. It is beside Ballycastle. The two other graveyards are about three miles from Ballycastle. Long ago unbaptised children were not buried in the graveyard. They were buried in a place for themselves. In Pat Tighe's field in Ballycastle, Co Mayo. unbaptised children used be buried.
There is an old fort in this field, and around the fort the children are buried. There are a number of grey stones around the fort. In Mrs. Garven's land Portnahalla, Ballycastle, Co Mayo there is a circle of grey stones about nine feet square and it is thought it is an(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
