   smith and is there for many years.
   Long ago the smith was a very prominent man because when people went to get their horses shod they always brought with them a half a pint of whiskey at least or he would not shoe the horse, and when drinking the whiskey he should walk around the anvel.
   The people who went to the forge never vexed the smith but were very nice with him because a smiths curse was supposed to be a very harmful one. Before he would curse he would walk round the anvel.
   Churning
   We have a churn at home and it is about three feet heigh. It is not and old churn. It is a dash churn. It is the same width on top as bottom but very narrow in the middle. In summer we churn twice a week but we dont churn at all in winter. It takes a half an hour to churn including about seven minutes rocking. When the churning is done a clod of turf is got and the patties are being washed in boiling water.
   When the rocking is done all the butter is on top so the woman takes up every smite of butter and puts it in the dish. She then gets
