- Fr. Murray was P.P. of Kilfian in the year 1702. He came to Ballina in a plain suit because there were so many men killing priests. So the Jacksons and the Armstrongs heard about the priest in the town. So they hunted the priest and caught him in Church Road Ardnaree. And they gave him a beating so cruel that they nearly killed him. There was an old washwoman living in an old where Keavenys now live and she brought the priest into the house and washed his wounds and bandaged them. He left the town and when he was better he came back and took up duty in Ballina. Ten years after he was excuted in Ardnaree in the year 1712 and he was buried in Ardnaree Abbey. And it is said that there is a cure there.(continues on next page)
