He went and told her brother and asked him to come with him on that night but the brother refused. He said that he had a weak family and that the fairies might taken them away from him. Then the man went to work himself and cleared out every thing that was in the barn except a horse's manger that was in the wall and which he thought was no harm.
They passed through the barn on the very night she said and the man was there to meet them. He struck the woman that was on the third horse. Then the horse's manger was taken and thrown into his hands instead of his wife.
Then he knew he had not done as she told him. She had no right to have left the manger in the barn. He was very sorry and he never saw his wife after that.
