- Once upon a time a priest was brought on a sick call. His house was about four miles from the house where the sick person was. There were no motor-cars at that time so he had to go on horseback. He went through Crossmolina. It was very late when he was returning home and he did not like to go through the town because the soldiers were on guard in it, so he had to take another road.The road he took ran through a large dark wood which was owned by protestants. It was said that a priest was killed there some years before. He had not gone far when the ghost came before him on the road. The priest backed his horse to a house near by. There were men inside playing cards. He asked for holy water. It was given to him. He then shook the holy water on the ghost. He commanded it to go to a small island(continues on next page)
