- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)the spade nowadays. They are "scuffled".
When the stalks come over the ground they are moulded, that is the shoughs are again scuffled and clay shovelled on to the ridge to support the stalks.
Next the potatoes are sprayed. A forty-gallon barrel is filled with water. Eight pounds of Bluestone are steeped in it. When this is melted a solution of Lime or Washingsoda is added until the solution in the barrel reaches the required strength which is the stage at which the "testing paper" comes out "blue" after being dipped in the solution. If the paper turns reddish the solution is too strong and would burn the stalks.
The solution is then sprinkled over the stalks by means of a spraying machine. This operation is repeated three times during the life of the stalks.
Next the potatoes are dug out on the ridges. They are then collected into creels(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
