- Glengort: It means the glen of the tillage fields. It was called that because long ago it was all heath and now it is tilled in gardens. It is about a half mile off the Castlebar - Belmullet road.
Townacran: It means the stripe of land with the trees. There is no more trees in it than any other village. It is beside the Castlebar- Belmullet road.
Letternevogue: means the slope of hillside of the young saints. It is about a mile off the Castlebar- Belmullet road. There are three lakes in it as follows:
Lough na Faolán: It means the lake of sea-gulls. It was called that because sea-gulls nest in it.
Lough Cleevalac: I could not find out the meaning of it.
The Black Lake: It was called that because its water is very black.
