May was considered an unlucky month and Friday was thought to be an unlucky day for weddings. In the evening the straw boy's would come and dance and sing outside the door. They would shout and call out to the married couple and invoke many strange blessings on them. They would be invited in to partake of the fun and would get money. There were certain ould sayings relating to marriages such as.
"Married in blue you are sure to be true. "Married in brown you are sure to wear a frown. This is an old ryhme about the wedding days.
"Monday for health,
"Tuesday for wealth,
"Wednesday is the best day of all,
"Thursday for losses,
"Friday for crosses,
"And Saturday is no day at all."
