Sometimes people get married during Shrove. When they get married during Shrove it is generally on shrove Tuesday
Friday is said to be an unlucky day to get married, and May an unlucky month.
There may be customs connected with Shrove but I do not know of any.
Matches are made in our district but very seldom this happens.
Money is sometimes given as a dowry, if not it is stock or goods.
Two weddings took place in a house near ours about 57 years ago. Some of the marriage customs t tying an old shoe to the back of the brides car, and throwing confetti on the married couple as they come out of the church.
