- The Holy Well of Mothel is situated in the townland of Ballynevin and about two and half miles from Clonea. The name of the well is St. Cuan's well.St Cuan lived there in the sixth century, it is said that his first monastery was built in the same field as the well. It is also said that he was the founder of the monastery in Mothel the ruins of which are still to be seen. The pattern of the well is held on the 8th July and it lasts for a week. Nine rounds are made at the well and in the course of these the stream that flows from the well has to be walked for a fairly long distance. Persons who are affected in any part of their bodies wash the affected part in the stream and sometimes they are healed(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
