Many giants and other champions there were in those days (about the beginning of the fifth century) in Ireland, of Irish and Danish birth hired by them for their defence. Those travelling into foreign countries fought many combats and got yearly tribute unto their country as the manner was then amongst such challengers. For this they were generally envied and a day was appointed by the invaders to arrive together in Ireland to overrun the country and root out the whole nation. The first company 30,000 landed at Derry where they were all over-thrown. The second company came to Lambay and landed their men at the Follesse of Skerries, set them in battle array and marched them to a place called "Knock na Cean" i.e. the "hill of the heads" where Dermot Lamdeargh King of Leinster met them.
