- The farmers of this district sow about an acre of potatoes every year.
To make the land rich for the potatoes they spread manure on it first and then they plough it.
Before they sow the potatoes they cut them into halves, leaving an eye in each half.
When they see the young plants appearing they put clay to them and this is called landing them.
In the Autumn when the potatoes are ripe they dig them out with spades, and then they gather them into sacks and pit them.
