  1. The Martello Tower which stands near the Forty-Foot in Sandycove, was once known as the "Battery". The tower was so-called because there were soldiers stationed there. The old Colnel who was in charge of the garrison, lived in "Bella Vista", beside Glasthule church. The cellars of "Bella Vista" are directly under the church.
    The colour-sergeant of the garrison, was the colnel's servant. Hanberry was his name. My grand-aunt a certain Miss Tobin was nurse to the Colnel's children. She married colour-sergeant Hanberry, in the 1861. Some time
