About thirty years ago the shoemaker went to the houses at the 1 st of November and made a pair of boots for everyone of the family. There are four shoemakers in this district. Long ago there were more shoemakers than are now.
The reason why there are not as many shoemakers nowadays is because nearly every person buys his boots in a shop. Long ago the women wore clogs and up to the present day people in this district wear them.
A place where clogs are made is called a "clog man's shop". All the boots are bought in shops now and the shoemakers only repair the boots.
