   Some years ago a tribe of boys used to go round on Hallo Eve night banging everyone’s door with cabbage and turnips. Others used to boil a pot of white stones and [pins ?] to keep the fairies from blinking. Other people used to put salt in the pan before they milked the cows that night, they did this to keep away bad luck.

   The fairies are said to ride them benweeds after twelve o’clock, so boys dress up in white sheets and go out to frighten the people. When people
