- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)The tom-tit, blind-bat, swallow, wag-tail, and linnet, build their nests in old houses. They make them of mud, feathers, and hair, and lay about four eggs in them. The swan, seagull, peewit, curlew, wigdeon, and blackbird build their nests along the shore. They lay about four eggs. They make their nests of sticks, and fog.The moorhen builds her nest in the bogs, and lays about two eggs. She makes her nest of fog.The cuckoo builds no nest of her own, but lays her egg in another bird's nest, usually in the nest of the robin. When we hear the thrush whistling we say it is going to be good weather. When the swans leave the shore, and go to the loughs we say there is going to be a storm. When we hear the blackbird whistling in the morning, or see the swallows flying low we say we are going to have a storm. There is a story told us about the robin. When Our Saviour was hanging on the cross the robin came and His blood fell on its breast, and it got the name of Robin Red Breast ever since.
