bit on luck. They considered the months of March and May unlucky months in which to get married.
They thought it unlucky if the wedding day was wet.
The saying was "happy is the bride that the sun shines on"
The bridegroom wore a black frocked coat, or swallow tail, and light shade of trousers stiff white cuffs, and collar and a bow necktie.
The women usually wore a silk dress, mostly a blue shade as this was considered a lucky colour.
There is a rhyme which runs this:-
"Marry in blue to him you'll be true.
Marry in green you're ashamed to be seen.
Marry in grey you'll live far away.
Marry in black you're afraid to come back.
Marry in white you'll do what is right.
Marry in brown you'll live in the town.
Marry in red and you wish you were dead.
Marry in pink you're spirit will sink."
