- Buyers used to come to peoples houses but this is not done now. The St. Johnston fair is held on the 25th November in the street. No toll is paid. Luck money is still given, generally one shilling to the pound. The beasts are not marked as a rule but some people clip the hair at the side or mark them with tar.
The halter is given away with a horse. Most important fair is Raphoe 10 1/2 miles from school.
When they are buying they spit on their hands and hit each others hands when the bargain was made. Nearly everybody got drunk but there is very little drinking now.- Bailitheoir
