- In olden times the people mostly planted their potatoes in ridges as it was far handier for them the main potatoes then were Champion and Skerry.
People made the plots three feet wide and 18 inches long on each side each potato was put a foot apart. As time went on they started to drill with spades they put beans, peas and cabbage in between the potatoes but it was not a very good idea.
Because when the people went to dig out their potatoes the clay was thrown on the beans and buried them. The old people said that no one should put their potatoes in till after St. Patrick's Day and to bring them out before Halloween.
Nowadays the potatoes are put in before St. Patrick's Day and brought out before Halloweve. These methods are all done away with now as they are far too slow and besides we need such(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
