- There was a famine here about fifty years ago. There were men digging here from morning to night and maybe they would only get a couple of potatoes. The Goverement then supplied the people with potatoes called the American Roses.
Some had to eat turnips. The people gathered shellfish on the shore and when they were done gathering they would kindle a fire and boil this meat and eat them before they would go home. The people went down to Rockfield and they got Indian porridge and carried it home in tin cans. They had to go twice(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
