- The old people used to take a great pride in the art of thatching, for in earlier times nearly every house was thatched.
When straw for thatching was required, corn was carefully handled.
The sheaves were loosed and left down on the floor.
One man threshed the oats off the sheaf turning it over with the end of the flail, so as to see that no grain remained.
