    She often heard strangers coming to this place talk about the bushes that are growing here and there through the fields.

    shelters for the little folk and should not be touched.
    There are many who do not believe in these things and laugh at them.
    At the same time they would not be prepared to cut down these bushes. It was told one time that a Mr Ferguson of Lisfannon cut down one of these bushes, and a horse broke his leg while he was ploughing.
    In my father's field there is one of these bushes and he would not touch it, as he often said it might not be right.
    It is considered unlucky to burn holly, as the holly is looked upon as a gentle bush.
    It is also considered unlucky to burn holly when it is taken down after Christmas.
    It is said that no one should hit an animal with holly.
