    Twenty was the number of human lives
    That in that boat set sail;
    Only one survivor was left

    That one survivor he fought his way,
    Valiant and brave and bold;
    Two of their lives he tried to save -
    All foundered with the cold.
    No human being was there to lend
    A hand, their lives to restore,
    Once Neptune bold, who rules the waves
    Washed them far out from the shore
    No tongue could tell the hardships,
    That young man did endure;
    The whole night long he watched the land
    But no relief came near.
    As the night advanced, there was a little chance
    Of people being about,
    But he watched the houses that were in view,
