A Story (ar lean)
“I have heard my parents frequently telling many stories relating to fairies which they believe were common in Glenagivney some time ago.”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)up to him and told him that the fairies had stolen his pig and that he would not get it back until he found a four leafed clover. On finding the clover the rabbit advised him to take great care of it and when he rubbed it to his eyes that he would see the fairies.
This is another of the tricks of the fairies. Once upon a time there was a man working on the roads here in Glenagivney locally called Michael John Hugh. One night when he was in his neighbours' house he heard the story of a jar of gold which was hidden under a rock along-side the road. Over this rock there was a small thorn-tree growing. The next day he took a neighbour man with him called Dan. He told Dan he was going to lift the rock. Dan told him not to lift it because his mother saw fairies dancing on top of it every evening when bringing in her cows. Michael lifted the rock and found the gold. He brought it home and left it in the press and he intended to hide it the next day but when he got up in the morning there was not a hair on his head and when he went to the press the gold was gone. The thorn-tree is still there but since Michael lifted the rock a part of this tree withers every year.- Bailitheoir
