On 12th August, about sixty five years ago, it was decided to carry these celebrations into the Catholic quarter, by marching in procession with bands playing "Party Tunes."
The Catholics at once prepared to meet the intrusion and when this news reached Donegal all the available stalwart men marched to Derry to render assistance to their Catholic brethern.
Their presence had a steadying effect on the enemy who abandoned their plans.
The Donegal men wore the loose short coats made from undyed wool and their opponents in derision called the "The "Walley" Coats."- Bailitheoir
