- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)"hock and Groundel" were the most popular herbs for curing among our ancestors. A poultice of hawk, groundsel and wheaten meal wet with the dregs of porter was supposed to draw any abcess or boil. Wild celery was the best cure going for rheumatism and also for purifying the blood. There still lives an old man in Rush who mixes bottles of "celery and spring water" and sells them as a blood tonic.
