- I often saw women, in the streets of Dublin selling button-hole flowers. They sell violets and other small flowers with a sweet smell or perfume Once or twice, I saw them selling heather to me a Howth, boy I thought it very strange because it is so plentiful around the Summit. One woman had some white-heather and to everyone she asked to buy some, she called it, the lucky heather. So white heather is said to be be lucky and I suppose the reason is, that it is very scarce I suppose too, that is why people say to find a four-leafed shamrock brings good luck also, for if there is such a thing at all, it must be very scarce for I never knew anyone who even found one.
