    Rainbow
On nights when there are no stars one may notice that the weather will change to rain.
    "Rainbow at night,
    Shepherds delight.
    Rainbow in the morning,
    Shepherds warning."
    Fog
When a fog is seen on a mountain and it seems to be rolling down the side of the mountain it is a sign of rain, but when it is to be seen clearing off, and rising up over the top of the mountain it is a sign of fine weather.
    Fire
When one can see a deep blue flame in the fire it predicts wind.
When the fire is bring up the chimney very quickly and brightly it is a sign of frost.
When the fire burns with a red glow it is a sign of a cold dry autumnal day out-of-doors.
When a flame comes out through the bars it shows a storm.
    Smoke
When the wind puffs the smoke back down the chimney it is a sign of rain.
When the smoke rises perpendicularly from the chimney it predicts rain.
    Birds
When the birds are flying low the [sic] show us that the temperature is so cold high up that they cannot bear it and they have to retire to the lower regions, and that shows it will soon rain.
