    and oats with hooks and tie it
    up then. They had not even a rake
    at that time at al. They used to
    gather up the loose bits of hay
    and straw with their hands. It
    used to take them a long time
    to cut an acre of hay. When
    they used to be bringing it home
    they used to carry it on their
    backs if it was not a very long
    distance away. They used to have no
    forks at that time either but a long
    stick with a bit of iron at the
    top nearly like a grape and they
    used those for other purposes also. When
    they would be thrashing the oats they
    used to knock the grain out by
