My father ploughs the potato land in winter with a duck plough and lets it lie ploughed until the spring. He then harrows it and then makes the drills. He then carts out the manure, spreads it in the bottom of the drills, drops the seed potatoes on the top of the manure. (Very often sulphate of ammonia is put along with the farmyard manure). He then closes the drills. They are then saddle harrowed in order to remove the lumps from the tops of the drills.
